Am I eligible for the Cash App settlement? Here's how to file a claim, who qualifies
In December 2021, the payment app Cash App had a data leak that released personal information of more than 8 million Cash App Investing customers.
And the users that were affected can now apply to get some cash back, as Cash App was ordered to pay out $15 million in damages, according to USA TODAY.
“If users had unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers of funds from their Cash App account between August 23, 2018, and before August 20, 2024, they are eligible to submit a claim for up to $2,500,” USA TODAY reported.
Here’s how to apply for a Cash App payout.
Am I eligible for the Cash App settlement?
If you had a Cash App account between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024 and have not already been reimbursed by Block Inc., Cash App Investing or a third party, you are eligible for a piece of the Cash App settlement.
Here are the types of claims you can file with Cash App, according to Cash App and USA TODAY:
- Out-of-Pocket Losses: This claim shows that the user’s Cash App account was involved in the data breach. If a user is eligible for a reimbursement, after submitting the required documentation to the company they could receive up to $2,500.
- Lost Time: Users can submit a claim for up to three hours at a rate of $25 per hour for time spent regarding the data breach.
- Transaction Losses: If a user lost money and hasn’t been reimbursed, they will be able to submit a Transaction Losses claim.

How can I file a claim against Cash App?
If you’re filing a claim, you can only file one. But if you have multiple Cash App accounts to submit a claim for, you can list all of your CashTags and information about your claims on one claim form, Cash App told USA TODAY.
