Tips from Billboard on how to stay safe at concert venues

It’s impossible to be fully prepared for an unexpected attack in a crowded place, but there are a few things you can do to stay as safe as possible if that happens.

Here are Billboard’s tips for staying safe during an attack at a concert:

  • Charge your phone and consider bringing a portable charger to concerts or festivals.
  • Use the buddy system
  • Study the venue in advance. Track down a map and go over the sometimes detailed official safety precautions.
  • Envision an escape route on-site and have a mental escape plan.
  • Keep your faculties. It’s hard to avoid weed-smoking and beer-drinking at shows, but you need to be able to clear your head and figure out what’s going on during a crisis.
  • In a pinch, look for a fire extinguisher. It can be a self-defense weapon.
  • Be prepared to run.
