Duly warned by their coaches and perhaps mindful of nearly a half-million dollars in fines levied against the New York Giants and Detroit Lions last week, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tampa Bay Bucs went through a brotherly combined practice on Wednesday at the Miller Electric Center.

Heck, the offensive and defensive linemen even shook hands after a full-contact drill.

Jaguars coach Doug Pederson said earlier in the week that he would warn his team against flare-ups against the Bucs and assumed their own Todd Bowles would be of like mind. As a result, the joint practice, the first at home for the Jags since 2017, came off without a hitch in terms of scuffles.

That left the highlights to be found on the field and the Jags' offense supplied a few, including what seems to be a an obligatory touchdown pass from Trevor Lawrence to rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. They did not disappoint the crowd, connecting on a red-zone TD in a 7-on-7 period, then a deep TD pass on 11-on-11, covering about 50 yards with Thomas easily beating cornerback Keenan Isaac.

The Bucs defense played better during an 11-on-11 red zone period late in practice and held Lawrence to one completion in four attempts. However, the completion was for a TD to Travis Etienne, Lawrence's fourth of the day.

The two teams will do it again on Thursday, with gates opening at 9 a.m. After an off day they will play a preseason game at EverBank Stadium, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Practice report

Duration: Two hours, full pads.

Weather conditions: Partly cloudy, 83 degrees to start, 90 degrees at the finish, 71 percent humidity, 92 degree heat index.

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. (1) hauls in a reception against Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Vi Jones (53) during a combined NFL football training camp session on Aug. 14 at the Miller Electric Center.

Injuries: WR Christian Kirk did not participate in practice. The team did not release any information. Also not participating were S Tashaun Gipson and DT Arik Armstead, who are going through acclimation periods before they're allowed in full contact. RB Keilan Robinson (toe) also did not practice.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback John Wolford (11), a Bishop Kenny graduate, gets off a pass during a combined NFL football training camp session against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Aug. 14 at the Miller Electric Center.

Offense: Tank Bigsby runs hard, finds the end zone

  • Running back Tank Bigsby continues to run hard and take care of the ball. He was especially effective in an 11-on-11 red-zone period in which he scored three touchdowns, one on a toss sweep that looked bottled up until he found an extra gear, turned the corner and sped into the end zone.
  • Jaguars quarterback combined for six touchdowns in 11 7-on-7 reps, with Lawrence finding Thomas, Parker Washington and Evan Engram for scores, C.J. Beathard hitting Brenton Strange and Joshua Cephus and Mac Jones connecting with Seth Williams. The TD pass to Washington was a beauty of a catch, with Washington diving near the corner of the end zone.
  • In an 11-on-11 red-zone period ... not so much. The QBs combined to complete 4 of 8 passes for two TDs, Lawrence to Etienne and Jones to Cephus.
  • Cephus dropped a pass in an 11-on-11 and Engram had a ball jarred loose by Zyon McCollum that he could have fought harder to hold.
  • Jones completed a pass to Elijah Cooks in which Cooks not only won a 50-50 battle for the ball with cornerback Josh Hayes, but Hayes' helmet came flying off when the two hit the ground.
  • The Jaguars offensive line had some protection issues and the quarterbacks would have either been sacked or scrambled. Lawrence and Beathard had balls batted down at the line of scrimmage.

Defense: Jaguars second has a good day

  • Tyson Campbell made a nice play against Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans in red zone period 7-on-7. Campbell stayed with Evans and ensured the pass wasn't completed. No flags.
  • Cornerback Christian Braswell continued to look impressive, at least on one occasion. He made a pass breakup against Bucs receiver Trey Palmer.
  • Ventrell Miller flashed in the run game. On one play, he met a running back in perfect position running across the field on a toss play. Miller also broke up a Kyle Trask pass intended for Cody Thompson.
  • Bucs receivers made a couple of nice catches against Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones. He nearly made a play on the ball on one occasion, but missed out by just a fingertip.
  • The Jaguars goal line defense was stout, but allowed a last-second touchdown at the end of the period.

Special teams: Logan Cooke was booming

  • Jaguars punter Logan Cooke averaged 54.3 yards on eight punts during a period in which he combined kicks against and without a live rush. He had two kicks of 60 yards or longer and only one less than 50 yards.
