With all the excitement and pride surrounding the games, many don't want to reach the Closing Ceremony on Aug. 11 and are already asking — "Where is the next one going to be held?"
While winter sports fans will see their favorites compete much sooner in Italy in 2026, we have four more years until the next Summer Olympic Games. Here's what country will be hosting them and what we know so far.

The 2028 Summer Games will be held in Los Angeles, with its website adding the California city will host 50-plus Olympic and Paralympic sports and more than 800 events in 80 existing venues.

LA 28 proposed five additional games. Here's what they are
Back in October, six sports were proposed by the LA28 Organizing Committee to add to the next games — baseball, softball, cricket, flag football (a limited-contact version of American football), lacrosse and squash.
“LA28’s proposed sports ignite the imagination on the field of play and drive culture off it. They’re relevant, innovative and community-based, played in backyards, schoolyards, community centers, stadiums and parks across the U.S. and the globe,” LA28 Chairperson Casey Wasserman said in a press release. “They will bring new athletes to the Games, engage diverse fanbases and expand the Games’ presence in digital spaces, further amplifying LA28’s mission to deliver an unparalleled experience.”
LA 2028 to work toward hosting the first 'Energy Positive Games.' What does that mean?
In addition to using existing venues, Olympic officials for the 2028 games shared they aim to generate more energy through renewable sources and energy efficiency efforts than the energy needed to power the games.
"The candidature has already commenced discussions with LA’s venue operators, regional utility partners, tech innovators and the region’s 18 million residents to meet this goal," their website says.
Officials added they have plans to accelerate the city’s goal of achieving zero waste through its venue operations and overlay reuse strategy. This will be accomplished by partnering with venues to develop robust recycling programs that apply best practices from LA’s existing stadiums.
