2 Florida waterparks ranked among best in the country for adults. Have you been to them?
When it comes to beating the heat, nothing feels better than cooling off by a body of water. But sometimes it gets boring to always hang by the pool or too annoying planning out a daytrip to the beach.
What if there was a more exciting way to cool off during this sweltering Florida heat? Well, there definitely is — let's remind ourselves about water parks. And no, they aren't only for kids.
Travel magazine Thrillist named its top 10 water parks in the country for adults, with two Florida parks making the cut for its thrill rides, theming and tons of cocktails.
Whether you're looking to heal your inner child by doing down as many water parks as you want or just want to lay on a day bed with a frozen margarita, these parks have you covered. See Thrillist's recommendations for the best water parks for adults:
Tidal Cove, Aventura
Thrillist tells readers to imagine a "swanky South Beach day club complete with the occasional live DJ, all-white private cabanas, and frosé served all day long," then add waterslides.

"That’s a pretty close approximation to the experience at Tidal Cove, a water park attached to a JW Marriott about half an hour north of Miami. Here, you’ll live like a jet-setting adult and play like one of their overindulged children, feasting on A-plus bar food, strong, fruity cocktails, and plenty of high-quality people-watching."
According to its website, the water park features a 60-foot tower with seven water slides, 25 private cabanas and an additional VIP pool.
Address: 19999 W Country Club Dr., Aventura, FL 33180
Admission: $25 to $500 depending on the day and amenities
Volcano Bay, Universal Studios Orlando
Volcano Bay is Universal Studios Orlando's tropical-themed water park, hosting over 15 attractions located in four themed areas inspired by various Polynesian islands and cultures.
"Volcano Bay’s strengths lie in its ability to provide good, ol’ fashioned terror. We’re talking about the park’s signature slide: the Ko’okiri Body Plunge. The 125-foot trap door ride drops you at a 70-degree angle down a volcano and past the less-adventurous humans relaxing in the swimming pool below," Thrillist highlights.
Thrillist notes that the water park has two other 125-foot slides for any thrill-junkies. If you need something to calm your nerves, they suggest the Dancing Dragons Boat Bar, which they joke will "hook you up with enough liquid courage to try it again."
Address: 6000 Universal Blvd, Orlando, FL 32819
Admission: Starting at $80.99 plus tax, prices go up depending on day

Tips for visiting a water park in Florida
To help potential parkgoers on future water park visits, Visit Florida writers shared their tips and tricks, such as:
- Try to visit on a weekday, early in the week, when fewer guests visit. Be aware that some water park are open seasonally (call ahead).
- It's hard to get up early while you're on vacation but, as mother said, "the early bird gets to the waterslides first."
- Buy a watertight plastic container (necklace or bracelet) at the gift shop before heading to the water. This will allow you to take your credit cards and money with you, rather than returning to your locker multiple times.
- Designate a meeting spot in case someone gets lost or your group separates. (I learned this the hard way at Adventure Island's river attraction when my son and a friend took off in the current before I had even found a raft. It took me 15 anxiety-ridden minutes to find them.)
- Whether cloudy or sunny, wear sunscreen with a high SPF and take time to reapply often during the day.
- This tip will not be popular with teens, but avoid bikinis and too-big swim shorts worn "way low" - especially if your family plans to try the huge, vertical slides. The kids won't feel so "cool" anymore when water pressure on the rides exposes more than they meant to.
- Most of the water parks allow coolers (no glass or alcohol allowed), so bring your own drinks and snacks if you like. Call ahead for park rules.
- If you have children of different ages, be prepared to divide and conquer with a friend or spouse taking one age- or daredevil-level and you the other. Meet up periodically and switch off.
- Keep a change of clothes in a plastic bag. If it rains, your clothes will still be dry when it's time to get out of your wet suit and return to your hotel.
