Voice of the People (June 16, 2024): Marco Rubio ditches his integrity for Trump
Marco Rubio throws integrity out the window
Shame on you Sen. Marco Rubio. A lawyer in good standing trying to destabilize our country by calling for violence, "fighting fire with fire," and disavowing the backbone of our constitutional government, law and order and the jury system.
You are a smart man, you have witnessed Trump up close, there are no excuses for your behavior. Trump is a convicted felon. He is indicted and will be convicted for his treacherous actions on Jan. 6 and for espionage for taking and refusing to return top secret files. So far, 12 felony convictions of his staff and lawyers. Thirty-four felony convictions of citizen Trump.
How many Obama staff were indicted or convicted? Answer, zero. How many Biden staff have been indicted or convicted? Answer, zero.
You had it correct in 2016 calling Trump a "con artist" who is hijacking the conservative movement. A prescient prediction, senator. Your decision to lick-the-boots of this despicable man will be recorded in our history books for our children to read and reflect on your lack of honor to stand up to law and order.

Women vs. male Republicans
Conservative male Republicans have repeatedly demonstrated their lack of character. Their leader was infamously recorded saying it’s alright to grab a woman by her private parts. They delighted in taking away a woman’s right to maintain control over her body during pregnancy.
Conservative male Republican Sen. Ted Cruz blamed his wife for his decision to flee his State of Texas to go on vacation in Mexico, abandoning his constituents during a deadly winter storm. Conservative male Republican Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas insisted his wife was the one who donated $300,000 to the “Stop the Steal” rally prior to the U.S. Capitol insurrection without his knowledge. Conservative male Republican Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito threw his wife under the bus by claiming she hung the American flag upside down after the 2020 election and he knew nothing about it.
Women did not get the right to vote until 1920. If they don’t exercise their right to vote, they may very well find themselves tethered by a leash long enough to get from the bedroom to the kitchen, and when pregnant, be forced to wear an ankle monitor. It is in women’s best interest to always vote against conservative male Republicans.

Understanding and compromise in abortion debate?
Abortion is a difficult and unique topic. There are women that will do almost anything to become pregnant and give birth. On the opposite extreme, there are pregnant women that will do almost anything to end their pregnancy.
What other issue has such extreme, opposite views? Suicide may come close. There are people that will do almost anything to extend their life while there are others that will do almost anything to end their life.
There are differences. A woman that has an abortion may feel regret while a person that commits suicide feels nothing. A person that commits suicide ends their own life while a pregnant woman that has an abortion ends the life of another.
Both topics are tragic and difficult to discuss because they involve death and the accompanying heartache. Supporters of each action can provide reasoning and examples that are very compelling.
For a compassionate country like ours, there are no easy answers, but topics like abortion cannot be left unresolved. Answers will require unbiased data, economic commitment, understanding and compromise. Amendment 4 doesn’t require any of these things.
Did Bill Clinton foresee the future when he said that abortions should be safe, legal and rare?
Edward McDonald, Auburndale
