Clermont man dies in collision with tractor trailer on SR 33 in Polk City

A Clermont man died Tuesday evening in a vehicle crash on State Road 33 in Polk County.

The 49-year-old man was driving south in a Honda CRV near Voyles Loop near Polk City when he attempted to pass slower traffic, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release. The vehicle entered the path of a northbound tractor trailer, and the two vehicles collided nearly head-on, FHP reported.

The tractor-trailer left the road and struck a utility pole and guide wires, but the driver was not injured. The driver of the Honda died at the scene, FHP reported.

The agency did not disclose the victim’s name.
