Nonprofit that helps low-income seniors with moving opens Polk County chapter
Safe Moves for Seniors, a national nonprofit organization specializing in assisting economically disadvantaged seniors in downsizing, decluttering and moving at no cost, has opened a chapter in Lakeland.
Residents age 60 and older with household income of less than $1,250 per month are eligible for the Safe Moves for Seniors program, the nonprofit said in a news release. The lead partner for the Polk County Chapter of Safe Moves for Seniors is Organized Haven.
The nonprofit chooses qualified moving companies and third-party services to handle the moves, the release said.
"Safe Moves for Seniors is filling in a much-needed gap in our communities and having qualified move managers like Organized Haven provide this service with compassion closes this gap. Our work will go a long way to alleviate housing insecurity in Polk County," founder Jill Yesko Diana said in the release.
