A collapsed sail left two boaters adrift off the Florida coast this weekend in 15- to 20-foot seas as a tropical storm came by, according to a release from the U.S. Coast Guard. Video shows the rescue Sunday.

The boaters went missing Saturday when they missed their check-in while sailing from Key West to Tarpon Springs, the USCG said. A friend contacted the Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg around 5 p.m. as Tropical Storm Debby loomed off Southwest Florida.

The boaters were located Sunday around 11 a.m., the USCG said. Their 34-foot sailing vessel had lost its sail about 73 miles off Boca Grande, west of Fort Myers, and were adrift in approximately 50-knot winds with low visibility. No injuries were reported.

"We received an updated satellite position from the boaters’ friend, which led to them being successfully located," said search and rescue mission coordinator Lt. Cmdr. Christopher Hooper. "This rescue was a collaborative effort between District Seven and Sector St. Petersburg while Tropical Storm Debby crossed the region.”
