Michael Unger

On Friday, August 9, 2024, Michael S. (Mike) Unger,71, passed away with his son, Michael, at his side at home in Haines City, Florida. Mike loved his family, friends, and fishing buddies and left each with a deep sense of gratitude for his life.

Born on March 17, 1953, in Great Lakes, Illinois, to Fredrick Unger and Carolyn Blatchley Unger Lani. As a child, he moved with his parents to Freehold, New Jersey, where he graduated from Freehold Borough High School in the class of 1971. Mike went on to a successful 45-year career as a Chicken Holiday franchise owner.

An avid fisherman, Mike enjoyed bookending his summers on fishing trips to Battam’s Fish Camp in the pristine Canadian wilderness for over 40 years with his life-long fishermen friends, brother, and sons.

He was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick Unger, and stepfather, Frank Lani, and brother-in-law, Gregory Costich (Sandra). He leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Carolyn Lani; the mother of his children, Sherry Unger; sons, Larry Hunsinger (Andrea) and Michael A. Unger (Barbara); daughter, Debbie Boos; brother, Thomas Unger (Marisa); sisters, Sandra Unger and, Linda Ingram; grandchildren, Morgan and Ryan Boos, Christopher, Alyssa and Brianna Hunsinger, and Victoria Unger; nieces, Jacquelyn Unger (Alexander) and Cassandra Cunningham (Mitchell); and many cousins and in-laws.

The family would like to thank Mike’s Sweetwater neighbors, especially John and Nancy Lunnie and Becky Wallace, for their deep care and concern.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life that will be held on Thursday, August 22,2024 beginning a 11:30 a.m. at the Sweetwater Golf and Tennis Club, 4635 US Highway 17/92 West, Haines City, Florida 33884.
